METALLICA: Photos, Video Clips Of HAMMETT Performing With FLUX QUARTET Posted Online
September 19, 2005METALLICA's official web site has been updated with several exclusive pictures of the band's guitarist, Kirk Hammett performing with string ensemble the FLUX QUARTET on Thursday (Sept. 15) at the Herbst Theatre in San Francisco as part of the Morrison Artists Series. Check them out at this location. Short video clips of the performance have been posted online at the following links: Clip#1, Clip#2, Clip#3, Clip#4, Clip#5, Clip#6, Clip#7.
As previously reported, Hammett joined the FLUX QUARTET for "SAS", a semi-improvised work by FLUX's first violinist, Thomas Chiu. Also appearing with FLUX for the piece was Saul Gropman, a classical guitarist.
"When I think of classical music, I immediately think of Bach or Beethoven," Hammett had told the San Francisco Chronicle the week prior to his FLUX guest appearance. "I've had very little experience with contemporary classical music.
"But when I heard this piece, it was very interesting. It's atmospheric, almost like a movie soundtrack. And after looking at the score and hearing the piece, I thought, 'Why not?' It takes me far enough out of my safety zone to challenge me."
METALLICA have been keeping a relatively low profile since completing their world tour in late 2004. The band is expected to begin working on a new album sometime before the end of this year.
